Fr. Joseph F. McDonald, III JCL

Father Joseph F. McDonald, III JCL is the pastor of St. Mary’s, Moscow and St. Mary’s, Genesee.  He was ordained a priest on June 26, 1987, by Bishop Sylvester W. Treinen in St. Edward Church, Twin Falls, for the Diocese of Boise. After ordination, he spent three years as a parochial vicar at St. Mark Parish, Boise, before studying canon law in Rome for two years. Upon his return, Father McDonald was appointed pastor of St. John Catholic Student Center, Pocatello. In 1996, he was also named administrator at St. Anthony Parish, Pocatello. In 1998, he became pastoral team moderator at St. John Cathedral and St. Mary Parish, Boise. Two years later, he was named cathedral rector. In 2003-10, Father McDonald was pastor of Idaho Falls Catholic Community, Idaho Falls, later known as Blessed John Paul II Parish which included Holy Rosary and Christ the King churches; St. Anthony Station, Roberts; St. Ann Station, Mud Lake; and Our Lady of Guadalupe, Shelley. In 2004, he served six months as moderator of St. Bernard Parish, Blackfoot, including Blessed Kateri Tekakwitha Chapel, Fort Hall. He was co-pastor and moderator of the Idaho Falls pastoral team, and administrator of Mary Immaculate Parish, Saint Anthony, including Good Shepherd Station, Driggs; St.  Patrick Chapel, Rexburg; and Chapel of the Pines, Island Park (2009-10). In 2011, he was named pastor of Our Lady of the Snows Parish, Sun Valley, and of St. Charles Parish, Hailey, including Immaculate Conception Chapel, Fairfield. In 2010-11, he was assigned to sabbatical studies at the Catholic University of Eastern Africa Maryknoll Institute of African Studies, earning a Certification of African Studies. Besides his parish duties, Father McDonald served three times on the Presbyteral Council (1992-97, 2003-06, 2011-present). He was a consultor (1992-97), and dean of Eastern Deanery (2003-06). He was assistant Vocations Director (1993-94), Judicial Vicar (1993-98) and adjutant Judicial Vicar (1998-2003). He has been a Promoter of Justice since 2003.
